AELTC vs WPGC

aka The all England Lawn Tennis Club (Wimbledon tennis club) take over of the Wimbledon Park Golf Club.

This was for a story in the Guardian Magazine about how Wimbledon tennis club were forcing the sale of the golf club to them, so that they could expand the car park and training courts of the club, and the resistance of the golf club players to the move.

But ultimately is was a story about peoples connection to place. Catherin Devons and Martin Sumpton had both been playing at the club every week and their social life, leisure time and mental health space was all tied up with this space, and would be hard to rebuild elsewhere.

Ironically this was not shot at the golf club - the club were keen to sell, as there was a sizeable payout for them, so they didn’t allow us to shoot there. These photos were taken at Richmond park golf course, a no membership public course down the road.
