A Tale of two workshops- Norton Custom Motorbikes and Mercedes Formula One
Norton Motorcycles
I was luck enough to be sent to the headquarters of Norton motorcycles by Director Magazine, to photograph their CEO Stuart Garner and the workshop where the bespoke, hand constructed bikes are assembled.
Norton was a dominant British Motorcycle brand through the 1930-1960, winning many races and producing popular bikes like the Commando, which at its peak, Norton produced 50,000 bikes a year.
It then declined with Japanese bikes becoming more popular. But is now back in production, making bike to order, all skilfully hand finished.
They also produced a special edition bike with a shinny tank for the James Bond film Spectre.
Mercedes F1 Headquarters
This is another motor sport related shoot, this time for Google. A trip to the Top Secret HQ in Brackley, of Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula one team.
At the headquarters, the cars are constructed, tested and modified before and after each race. There are wind tunnels and lots of Research and development departments to hone the cars for best possible performance in the grand prix.
I was obviously extremely restricted with what I was allowed to see, with Merecedes fiercely guarding their secrets.
Matt Harris is head of IT at the team, pictured with Nico Rosberg's F1 winning car from 2016.
Geoff Wills, the technology director, is in the race support room, where the team monitor the cars live, durring the formula one races globaly and call the technical and tactical shots in the race, for their desk in the UK.
